Filmed by the indefatigable OccupyTVNY team, this video shows how occupiers pulled off one of the most triumphant actions of the Occupy Movement when, on November 17, 2011, they strategically positioned a projector to shine messages of encouragement on the monolithic slab of windowless concrete known as the Verizon Building in Lower Manhattan while their fellow activists marched across the Brooklyn Bridge.

“As we made plans for the November 17 day of action, we wanted to make the end of that day a celebration, a galvanizing moment,” one of the filmmakers said. “We knew that thousands would be marching across the Brooklyn Bridge, and we knew we wanted to do video projections. An activist named Hero Vincent came up with the idea of the ‘bat signal.’ Mark Read came up with the text and coordinated the team that pulled off this spectacular stunt. The eviction of the encampment at Zuccotti Park two days earlier lent even greater power and poignancy to this moment."

That spectacle propelled the project forward: now the team behind the bat signal has a bat mobile. The Illuminator has already made an appearance at a Chase bank action this month. Look for it on May 1.
