Poem: We're in Need of Repair

Poem: We're in Need of Repair

We're constantly messing in other people's affairs.

We've got problems galore, burdened by mounting cares.

Poor people getting poorer, we give them a glare,

"it's their fault that their poor," this we declare.

People losing their homes, cast out to go where?

Joblessness mounting, people don't have a prayer.

Healthcares for the rich, our representatives declare,

"We've got healthcare for life, we don't have to despair.

But we'll force you to buy yours, at exorbitant fare.

Plus copays and deductibles, as the market may bear."

Food and gas are commodities, Wall Street wants its share,

Life's necessities sold, my friends please beware,

They'll soon have us paying, for breathing the air.

Bankers writing our laws, our rights to impair,

Playing tricks with the law, so they'll be billionaires.

"And no one to prosecute," they proclaim with a flair,

"It was more or less legal, we promise, we swear!"

The media moguls giggle, sitting up in their chairs,

receiving payoffs from both sides, confusion they'll air.

Truth is a casualty, as they set out to impair,

our understanding of propaganda, they give us a scare.

Keeping us in fear, the old boogie men snare,

it's terrorists today, "my God, they're everywhere"!

So say "bye bye" to your freedoms, as we live this nightmare,

the security state, requires all to forbear,

brutality and torture, a strip search here and there.

Our elected officials, stand up and declare:

"we must fight these wars!" they expound with fanfare,

Murdering locals for oil, is the new profiteer.

It's wars everlasting, let's make this quite clear,

"if we don't fight them there, we'll soon find them here."

We piss on their dead, standing tall with great flair,

Then we pose with some body parts, blown everywhere.

We burn their Koran, and in the cameras we glare,

"We're Americans God damn it!" all best to beware.

Something's wrong with society, when we stop giving a care,

We must be the change. We're in need of repair.

Their tactics to force construction of data centers even against significant opposition from local communities have become increasingly forceful and hostile.

Whether Republicans want to be the party of Christianity or the party of worshipping false idols is a question they’ll have to seriously reckon with very soon, unless they want the American electorate to speak for them.

“Storytelling teaches not through instruction, but through imagination and example,” says the Sami artist Máret Ánne Sara. “These stories don’t provide direct answers, but rather the ethical tools to navigate and sustain the world.”

Republicans’ fate in the 2026 midterms is likely sealed. But they could be out of power for multiple subsequent election cycles if Democrats are smart.

In November, Indigenous protests in London included the launch of “Bringing It All Back Home,” confronting corporate power head-on.
