Acronym TV - U.S. Bombs Doctors Without Borders Hospital – No End In Sight For War in Afghanistan

The United States marks the 15th anniversary of its military invasion and occupation of Afghanistan this week, with no end in sight. The Washington Post reports that President Obama is seriously considering a plan that would leave a significant troop force in the country after 2016, a move that would end his plans to bring U.S. troops home before he leaves office.

Just days before the 15th anniversary, a Doctors without Borders hospital in Kunduz, a city recently seized by the Taliban, was hit in an air raid by U.S. forces. The bombing resulted in over 20 dead and 40 wounded and leaves open serious unanswered questions about whether or not U.S. forces actually targeted the hospital on purpose – an unthinkable act that would be hard to entertain except for the unfolding facts on the ground and the unfortunate history of verifiable incidents where the U.S. military has targeted hospitals.

We are told, repeatedly, that all of this violence is to secure the peace, to protect our freedom. Fill in your own version of the phrase “killing for peace” is like “verbing for noun” here.

Journalists have a responsibility to plainly tell the truth about how truly different the Democrats and the Republicans are today, especially with both democracy and the rule of law at stake this November.

From Hungary and Poland to Italy and Spain, today's anti-abortionist movements are feeding one another—while also driving a growing counter-movement.

Agriculture, the service economy, sexual exploitation, manufacturing, construction and domestic work drive today's enslavement around the world.

Thanks to the Electoral College, leftists have perhaps the final say this November over whether democracy can hold on for at least another four years, or if fascism will take root and infect all facets of the federal government for decades to come.

What remains unknown is whether post-truth Republicans will succeed in 2024 as the Nazis did in 1933.

History shows there are no “one-day” dictatorships. When democracies fall, they typically fall completely.

Based on details that have emerged about Trump’s presidential agenda, the far-right Heritage Foundation plans for the next GOP president to have all the tools necessary to demolish multicultural democracy and establish a white, Christian ethnostate that imposes a gender apartheid not unlike the Taliban’s Afghanistan.
